Union Forever (2015)
When one sees wood and metal in furniture applications, we’re accustomed to seeing the timber as the primary surface, with the metal often acting as the underframe. The timber is celebrated, while the metal is supportive.
This piece inverses those roles, elevating the steel to the surface and creating a new experience between the two materials; re-imagining a material partnership that has grown stale over the years. Union Forever is a piece that places the emphasis on material composition. The kiln-fired steel top, punctuated with brass hardware, is a nod to industrial fabrication techniques, while the oak underframe adds warmth and accessibility.
